I’ve been known to say it a lot: dog won’t go up stairs. I mean it, literally, but I mean it more like, a dog won’t go up a set of stairs. And I mean it, but in a way that most people would never think of. I actually have a dog, so this question always comes up to me: “Is a dog going to climb a wooden staircase?” And the answer is no.
The term “dog won t go up a staircase” was coined by the American folk singer Bob Dylan, who used it in the song “I Shall Be Released” from the album Bringing It All Back Home. I have no idea why he said it, but he did, in fact, use it here, right in the context of the song.
I would have thought that Dylan would have been more likely to use the word staircase rather than stairs, but he used the word staircase in his song. In fact, in the song, Dylan has stated that he’s “going to go up a staircase.
I think that the word staircase has multiple meanings because it can refer to a wall of a staircase, a stairway, a series of stairs, and so on. One interpretation is that the word staircase is a noun and the verb staircase is a verb and that we use the word staircase to mean wall or staircase. Another interpretation is that the word staircase is a verb and the verb stairs is a noun and that we use the word staircase to mean stairs.
I used to have this belief (that the word staircase is a noun and the verb stairs is a verb) but I don’t anymore. In my last few years of graduate school I studied a lot of linguistics and found that when we use the word staircase, we usually use the word to refer to stairs and the word staircase to refer to a series of stairs, which, in turn, is a noun and we use the word staircase to refer to a series of stairs.

Our dog is a big dog, and she definitely is a dog. If she were a cat, you would think she would be a very different dog. But here she is, with cat-like tendencies.
The dog is a very clever little dog. Very curious, and she can do lots of things which cats cant. She is smart, but still a puppy. So we were really excited to see that she would still be able to do the things cats can do. She will still be a kitten when she is old enough. In fact, she will be so big that they say she could be the largest cat in the world.
It’s very hard to imagine a more adorable little puppy. But she will definitely have to be a little extra-cute to play the part of a cat.
We have also heard that dog won t go up stairs, but it’s not like we don’t know that there will be a very, very, very long process to get her to do so. And since we’re going to be watching her with rapt attention, that should be no problem.
