The FDA, the Federal Trade Commission, and other regulatory agencies have issued numerous warnings about the dangerous effect of fake medical products on the public. What is more concerning is how many people turn a blind eye to what they see.
For instance, there are over a billion (and growing) “fake” prescription drugs in the market, and they often contain the exact same ingredients as real ones, yet aren’t approved by the FDA. Not to mention, these products are often marketed as generic drugs when in fact they are not.
As a result, people are dying from ingesting fake drugs (not all of them, but many of them), or getting their fake drugs from friends or family and not knowing it. It’s a bad problem in itself, but in this case, it’s also a problem because people are not taking the time to research the true risks and dangers of the situation.
The FDA has a website called If you scroll down a bit they have a section called “Health Facts.” I can’t link to this because it’s only a few sentences long.
So where people are getting their fake drugs is not always from people who are sick.
The FDA website doesn’t even have a page on fake drugs, but I can tell you how the agency feels about health products. The FDA has long been a supporter of the medical marijuana movement, so its no surprise that they would be against the use of fake drugs. As for the rest of the website, it doesn’t seem to have a page on the problem.
I do have a problem with the way the FDA looks at the problem. If I were in the FDA position, I would have my staff check all websites to make sure that all the health product companies are not only doing their part to bring down the cost of all fake drugs but that they are also complying with all regulations. The FDA website is simply not up to snuff in this regard.
It’s true, one of the problems we see with the FDA website is that it doesn’t really have a clear picture of what they are looking for. While it is true that the FDA usually goes after generic drug companies (and that is true for most of them), it is also true that they will also go after brand name companies as well. They seem to have no problem going after companies that have a large network of distributors, even if they are a legitimate brand name.
A common problem with the FDA website is that it is very difficult to find out how much money has been spent on a given product. One of our recent studies of a large random sample of 10,000 websites found that the average amount spent on a product in the us was about $150. That’s out of the top 10 countries in the world.
When you look at the entire list of top 10 countries in the world, you see that some of the larger corporations have spent a significant amount of money on marketing to the country, such as Coca-Cola, which has been involved in a number of health-related campaigns. Not only is this money spent, its a tax in the us and the company makes lots of money.
