One of my favorite ways to incorporate the health benefits of the island is to have my clients travel to an island they know. Sometimes they are staying on the island for a month or two, but sometimes they are staying for a week or two. My goal is to give them the opportunity to experience the health benefits of the island while they are there and come back with incredible results from the process.
One of the other benefits of the island is that the island is not a place to be stuck. Instead, your clients can get out of their own way and get away from their normal routines. They can have fun, they can do their work, they can relax, they can get out of their minds for a short while.
In my head I see the island as a place where people can go and relax. Instead, they are stuck, and instead of the relaxation they want, they are stuck with one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: people who can’t relax. For that reason, I believe it’s a good idea to encourage clients to take care of themselves. In fact, I believe it’s one of the most important things that I can do for them.
So it’s no surprise that the first thing clients do when they get back from a vacation is to take care of themselves. I’ve seen clients who had been on vacation without realizing that they needed it. They didn’t think to take care of themselves to keep their minds off of them. To put it simply, if you are a client with a serious mental illness or condition, it’s a good idea to take care of yourself.
When clients ask about their mental state this week, I always point them to the resources that I have located on the Island Health and Rehabilitation page. You’ll need to look at the section on “Self-Care” as well as the section on “Sessions” to make sure you can handle doing a little bit of self-care.
Again, the goal of the Island Health and Rehabilitation page is to help you recover from the effects of a mental illness or condition. The resources found there are pretty comprehensive. It isn’t just a bunch of generic advice, though. For instance, people with HIV/AIDS should consider taking anti-retroviral drugs. This will help keep your mind off of you and make it easier for you to recover.

This section is important because it allows you to go and see someone who is in a mental health facility. This is important because most people who become mentally ill do so by themselves. I’m not a fan of the term “mental health.” I personally would prefer to use “mental illness” or “mental disorder.” But I think that’s too strong an adjective. The people who are mentally ill have other problems that lead to them becoming mentally ill. Some are under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or even medication. Some are just depressed.
