I remember when I lived in the Midwest and was a kid, I had a few friends that were into yoga, meditation, and alternative medicine. I thought that was pretty cool. I remember thinking, “Man, that sounds like a really cool thing to do.” But I never thought it would have a huge impact on one’s health.
And then after college, I went to the doctor for my annual checkup. She did a physical exam, blood work, and said all was fine. Then she said, “I have some bad news.” And I said, “What do you mean?” And she said, “I have something to tell you.
And then she told me that I had cancer. And I said, That’s terrible. And she told me, I’ve got a few options and I’ll let you know which of them you want. First, we have two types of treatments. One is surgery. The other is radiation therapy. Both of which are basically painful and risky. The surgery is done through what is essentially an incision.
A breast cancer diagnosis is a serious one. This is an unfortunate and extremely rare occurrence, so most people have a hard time getting any sympathy from doctors or insurance companies. The surgery is a more permanent procedure, and is typically done under general anesthesia. The radiation treatment, on the other hand, is much less uncomfortable and more painful, but also requires more frequent visits to the doctor, and is not as permanent.
