A group of us are heading to Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health Center in Grand Junction, CO to talk about the latest in behavioral health practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Transactional Analysis. This will be a first-hand look at the way the healthcare system treats people with mental illnesses. We also have a screening for depression, and a screening for people who abuse alcohol and drugs.
The treatment we get depends on the diagnosis, but the treatments we receive are the same in most cases. The treatment for depression is a prescription or referral to a psychiatrist. That’s a huge change from the last couple of months when I would have thought that clients wouldn’t want to talk about their depression.
I’ve heard many people say that they think therapy is the wrong treatment for depression. Thats because depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. In order to get any kind of relief from depression, you have to correct this imbalance. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) tries to correct the chemical imbalance by identifying how the person thinks about himself and his behaviors. CBT involves talking with the client and helping him identify and label his thoughts and behaviors.
The problem that many people have with therapy is that it seems as though its simply a quick fix to depression. That is not true. In fact, cognitive behavioral therapy has been shown to be one of the most effective treatments for people with depression.
The center also offers a number of other services including group counseling, substance abuse counseling, and family counseling. We are actually so excited to be working with the center because it has been so helpful to our family and our overall goal at Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health is to help people move on from past mistakes so we can create a better future for the people in our family.

Now that the center is set up in a beautiful new location that we could easily walk to, we can start seeing the people who are eligible for services. The center is accepting new patients, and we’ve scheduled our first appointments. The first step is to fill out the paperwork and complete the intake process.
