I’ve never been a fan of self-care. It always seems to come at the expense of our own well-being, and I don’t know why. I recently read a book titled The Art of Self-Care by Michael Greger. He says that self-care is about taking care of yourself, your physical, mental, and social well-being.
The book is a little bit of a hard read, and a little bit of a philosophical read. I think Greger is a little too focused on the physical, but I think a lot of the ideas he has are helpful. I think it is important to keep a balance between being healthy and taking care of ourselves.
It’s an important balance to keep, but a little too focused on physical well-being. I think it’s really important to keep a healthy mental and social well-being, which is where self-care comes in. That’s why I think more people should check in with their mental health, and not just their physical health.
Greger wants to create a health facility where clients can go and have a physical checkup, and then be fitted for a life-saving body suit. This is good, but I personally think health care should be more holistic, and not just physical. If you are a person who can be healthier and look better, then you should be able to take care of your mental health, too.
That’s the point Greger is making. The idea that people with mental health problems can look after themselves is not only a good idea, but it’s also true. In my experience, I have found that people with psychiatric and emotional problems tend to have a much higher rate of suicide attempts and self-harming than the rest of the population. A similar trend can be seen in that we know that people who suffer from depression can be more prone to substance abuse problems.
I’m not just talking about a general depression here, I’m specifically talking about anxiety. People with more severe forms of depression tend to think that “it can’t happen to me, I’m special”, while people with anxiety are more likely to think, “it can’t happen to me, I’m not special”. That means that people with mental health problems are more likely to commit suicide, because their expectations about their own mental health are much higher.
The mental health industry is in the midst of a “re-branding” process. Many of the big players in the field are trying to take their products to a new level of quality and safety, so new names like Nucleura and NuMedica are coming out of the woodwork. While these names might be new to a lot of people, they are just the latest in a long line of “rebranding” efforts in the mental health field.
These rebranding efforts are coming from a place of desperation. We can’t seem to find a healthy balance with the new mental health industry with its increasing emphasis on a more “concierge” approach to care. While it’s nice to have more options for people struggling with mental health, that’s also a recipe for more problems. We are seeing more and more people being left behind as society grows in the direction of becoming increasingly urban and digital.
We are seeing a lot of these rebranding efforts. We’ve seen a lot of the “Big 3” medical companies and medical device makers, as well as a lot of “Big 5” insurance companies, trying to get their foot in the door by starting to market solutions for patients who are suffering from health problems. The problem is that a lot of these treatments, and solutions, have no clear end goal.
There is no clear-cut end goal. We may be in the midst of a healthcare revolution, but for many people it seems like the solution to their problems is just to go to the doctor.
