Even though many states are still in the process of expanding Medicaid benefits to more low-income Americans, the federal government is starting to offer some benefits to those who need them. The first is the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is offered to low-income individuals who make up to $12,550 annually. This credit could be used to reduce or eliminate the out-of-pocket expenses of paying for medical expenses.
According to a press release issued by the National Association of State Budget Officers, the EITC is one of the few federal benefits that are available to people without health insurance. This is the first time the tax credit has been available since the ACA passed in 2010.
